Jila' al-Afham جلاء الأفهام في فضل الصلاة و السلام على خير الانام صلى الله عليه وسلم (Dar al-Minhaj al-Qaweem)

Jilāʾ al-Afhām fī Faḍl al-Ṣalāt wa al-Salām ʿalā Khayr al-Anām (جلاء الأفهام في فضل الصلاة والسلام على خير الأنام) by Imam Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (d. 751 AH / 1350 CE) is a detailed classical treatise on the virtues, rulings, etiquette, and occasions of sending ṣalāh and salām upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

The work examines the meaning of ṣalāt when attributed to Allah, the angels, and believers; discusses the relevant Qur’anic verses and Prophetic narrations; and analyzes their chains and authenticity. Ibn Qayyim identifies numerous occasions for sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, including during prayer, the funeral prayer, after the adhān, in supplication, when entering and leaving the mosque, and when the Prophet’s name is mentioned.

The book also discusses the spiritual and religious benefits of ṣalāh upon the Prophet ﷺ, concluding with an extensive enumeration of its benefits and effects. A major theme is the distinction between the meanings of Allah’s ṣalāt upon His Prophet and that of the angels and believers.

The Dār al-Minhāj al-Qawīm edition is critically edited from five manuscripts, with attention to textual variants, verification of Hadith references, and explanation of difficult vocabulary. It provides a carefully established text of this important work of Ibn Qayyim on ṣalāh and salām upon the Prophet ﷺ.
