Bustan al-Wa'izin wa-Riyad al-Sami'in بستان الواعظين ورياض السامعين

Bustan al-Wa’izin wa-Riyad al-Sami’in (بستان الواعظين ورياض السامعين - The Garden of the Preachers and the Meadows of the Listeners) is a highly regarded classical work of Islamic exhortation, ethics, and spiritual refinement (wa’z and raqa’iq). The book is attributed to Imam Abu’l-Faraj Jamal al-Din 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Ali ibn al-Jawzi (d. 597 AH / 1201 CE). He was a towering Hanbali jurist, historian, theologian, and perhaps the most famous orator and preacher (wa’iz) in Islamic history. Weak Narrations: Although Ibn al-Jawzi was a master Hadith critic (who authored Al-Mawdu’at, a famous compilation of fabricated hadiths), Bustan al-Wa’izin contains several weak (da’if) and even some highly questionable or fabricated (mawdu’) narrations, as well as unverified historical reports (Isra’iliyyat). This was common in classical wa’z (preaching) literature, where the primary focus was emotional impact and moral lessons rather than strict jurisprudential accuracy.

Attribution: Some contemporary researchers have questioned whether the book in its entirety was written directly by Ibn al-Jawzi, or if it was compiled by his students from his spoken lectures and sermons.
