Imam Nawawi’s collection of 42 hadith brings together some of the most important and pivotal Prophetic traditions. Each tradition encapsulates a great rule of the religion of Islam, described by Islamic religious scholars as an ‘axis’ in Islam. The commentary of the great hadith master Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Daqiq al-‘Id is simple but erudite and was the first prepared on Imam Nawawi’s collection.

Hadith Qudsi (Sacred hadith) are those sayings of the Prophet Muhammed divinely communicated to him, though the actual wording need not necessarily be that of the Almighty.

The present collection has been compiled from all the available books of hadith. The forty chosen are all well authenticated and present many of the doctrinal, devotional and ethical elements of Islam. A scholarly introduction deals fully with the subject and shows the way in which Sacred Hadith differ from the Holy Qur’an and Prophetic hadith.

This book is a compilation of four books which deal with the lives and works of the four imams who founded the four great canonical schools of thought of Islamic fiqh; Imam Abu Hanifah, Imam al-Shafi'i, Imam Malik Ibn Anas & Imam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal. The book was originally written in Arabic by the great Egyptian scholar and theologian Muhammad Abu Zahra and is presented in English for the first time.
