Al-Muʿjam al-Wasīṭ (المعجم الوسيط) is one of the most respected and widely used Arabic-Arabic dictionaries in the modern era, valued for its clarity, comprehensiveness, and accessible presentation of the Arabic language.

Compiled under the supervision of the Arabic Language Academy by a committee consisting of leading linguists, the dictionary provides precise definitions, linguistic explanations, and usage guidance for a vast range of classical and contemporary Arabic vocabulary. It serves as an essential reference tool for students of Arabic, researchers, translators, teachers, and scholars of Islamic sciences.

It contains approximately 30,000 words and six hundred illustrations. The dictionary also introduced two important features: the coining of new terms (waḍʿ al-alfāẓ) and the application of analogy (qiyās) in matters where no established precedent had been recorded. The dictionary was thus written in the language and spirit of the modern age, while maintaining precise and systematic organization.
