Rasa’il al-Rahma fi al-Mantiq wa-al-Hikma by Sheikh Abdul Kareem al-Mudarris is a specialized text on Islamic logic and philosophy. It explains key concepts of Mantiq and Hikma for advanced students of Shariah, Kalam, and Usul al-Fiqh, preserving classical rational sciences.

“Rasa’il al-Rahma fi al-Mantiq wa-al-Hikma” (رسائل الرحمة في المنطق والحكمة) by the esteemed scholar Sheikh Abdul Kareem Muhammad (famously known as Abdul Karim al-Mudarris or Nami, d. 1426 AH / 2005 CE) is a collection of scholarly treatises (rasa’il) designed to simplify and explain the intricate fields of classical logic (Mantiq) and intellectual wisdom (Hikma) for students of traditional Islamic sciences. It is written in an outline form with lots of diagrams that a teacher would draw on the board during his lecture. It also includes a substantial amount of minhuwat throughout the book.

The Author

Sheikh Abdul Kareem Muhammad al-Mudarris (d. 1426 AH / 2005 CE) was the renowned Mufti of Baghdad, Iraq, and one of the greatest Kurdish-Iraqi theologians, jurists (faqih), and grammarians of the 20th century. Nicknamed, al-Mudarris (the teacher) Sheikh Abdul Kareem al-Mudarris was famous for his teaching career at the historic Abdul Qadir al-Jilani Mosque in Baghdad. True to his teaching style, this book is highly structured, using clear definitions, systematic breakdowns, and pedagogical ease to make complex medieval logic accessible to modern seminary (hawzah or madrasah) students.

Significance of the Work

During the late 20th century, traditional instruction in the rational sciences (al-'ulum al-'aqliyyah) had begun to decline in many parts of the Muslim world. Rasa’il al-Rahma stands as an important contemporary effort to revive, preserve, and simplify these essential curriculum subjects, ensuring that students of Islamic law and theology retain the sharp critical-thinking tools of their classical predecessors.

Who Is This Book For?

Rasa’il al-Rahma fi al-Mantiq wa-al-Hikma is a specialized text intended for serious students and researchers of Islamic intellectual sciences. It is particularly suitable for:

• Advanced students of Islamic studies who have completed foundational Arabic studies and are beginning the rational sciences (al-‘ulum al-‘aqliyyah).

• Students of Shariah seeking to strengthen their understanding of Usul al-Fiqh and Kalam, as classical scholars considered logic an essential tool for sound reasoning and structured argumentation.

• Teachers and lecturers of Islamic logic, theology, and philosophy who require a clear, systematic teaching resource.

• Researchers studying the preservation and development of Mantiq and Hikma in modern Islamic scholarship, particularly within the Iraqi and Kurdish scholarly traditions.

This book is not intended for casual readers or beginners. It is best suited for those seeking a deeper understanding of classical logic, theological reasoning, and the intellectual foundations of Islamic scholarship.
