Sharh al-Jami' al-Saghir by Imām al-Sarakhsī is a foundational commentary in Ḥanafī fiqh. Authored by Shams al-A’immah Abū Bakr al-Sarakhsī (d. 483 AH / 1090 CE), it explains Imām Muḥammad al-Shaybānī’s al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr, a core text of the Zāhir al-Riwāyah corpus.
The work is notable for preserving the original chapter structure, analyzing legal reasoning (ʿillah), and linking subsidiary rulings to broader Ḥanafī اصول, while also presenting early intra-school discussions. Like al-Mabsūṭ, it was dictated from memory during Sarakhsī’s imprisonment in Uzjand.
For centuries, this work survived primarily in manuscript form and was heavily cited in later Hanafi texts. Recently, it has been meticulously verified, edited, and published as a scholarly 2 volume set by ISAM.
