Mufti Saeed Ahmad Palanpuri was among the foremost Islamic scholars of modern India. He served as Shaykh al-Hadith and Sadr Mudarris (Principal) at Darul Uloom Deoband, one of the world's most influential Islamic seminaries. Renowned for his mastery of Qur'anic exegesis, Hanafi jurisprudence, and the traditional rational sciences, including Arabic grammar, logic, and philosophy, he possessed a remarkable ability to simplify complex classical subjects without sacrificing scholarly rigor.
As part of his educational vision, Mufti Palanpuri authored the Mabadi (Principles) series, a collection of introductory textbooks covering Arabic morphology, syntax, logic, legal theory, and classical philosophy. Mabadi al-Falsafa serves as a concise yet systematic introduction to the Aristotelian philosophical framework as developed and employed within the Islamic scholarly tradition. It introduces students to foundational concepts such as the definition and scope of philosophy, existence and non-existence, essence, substance and accidents, causality, and the classification of physical bodies.
This edition, published by Dar al-Ghanim and edited by Sheikh Abdullah Fahmi of al-Azhar, is of particular academic significance. Traditionally, works produced for the Dars-e-Nizami curriculum in the Indian subcontinent remained largely unknown in the Arab world. Through his careful editing and annotation, Sheikh Abdullah Fahmi has helped introduce Mufti Palanpuri's lucid pedagogical style to a wider Arabic-speaking audience. His contribution bridges two major scholarly traditions and presents Arab students with a clear, accessible, and well-structured primer on classical philosophy that has earned appreciation in Middle Eastern academic circles.
