Asma' Shuyukh al-Shaykhayn أسماء شيوخ الشيخين الذين رويا عنهم في الصحيحين ويليه المنتقى من كناب أدب المحدِّث والمحدَّث

This work is a carefully compiled list of the shuyūkh (teachers) of Imam al-Bukhari and Imam Muslim, whose narrations are included in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim respectively.  

The Author: Shihab al-Din Abu Mahmud al-Maqdisi (d. 765 AH)

Shihab al-Din Abu Mahmud Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn Hilal al-Maqdisi al-Taimi al-Shafi’i was a prominent 8th-century AH scholar, jurist, and traditionist from Jerusalem (Al-Quds).

He was deeply rooted in the Shafi’i school of jurisprudence (Fiqh) and was a highly respected expert in Hadith sciences and Islamic history.

Living in the Mamluk era, he studied under major scholars of his time and contributed several works to Islamic literature, particularly focused on Jerusalem, history, and Hadith narrators.

Beyond presenting a valuable overview of the transmitters found in the two Ṣaḥīḥ collections, the book also offers insight into the vibrant scholarly tradition of Jerusalem during the 8th century Hijri period.

Significance of This Edition

This critical edition has been published for the first time directly from manuscript sources through the scholarly efforts and verification of Shaykh Jamal ‘Abd al-Salam and Shaykh Muhammad Khalid Killab.

The volume also includes excerpts from Adab al-Muḥaddith wa al-Muḥaddath by Abu Muhammad al-Azdi (d. 409 AH), further enriching its value for students of hadith literature and the etiquette of narration.
