Dirasat fi Usool al-Hadith ala Manhaj al-Hanafiyyah (Darul Kutub)
This book addresses the discipline of the principles of hadith (uṣūl al-ḥadīth) from an often neglected perspective in contemporary works: the Hanafi school. This perspective has frequently been overshadowed by the Shafi‘i framework in standard textbooks used for teaching hadith terminology. As a result, many Hanafis have come to study hadith methodology through a Shafi‘i lens while applying rulings according to Hanafi principles, creating a disconnect and inconsistency between theory and practice.
The author undertakes a comprehensive project by collecting hadith-related material from Hanafi sources, beginning with Imam Abu Hanifa himself, passing through his students Abu Yusuf and Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Shaybani, and extending to major Hanafi authorities such as al-Tahawi, al-Jassas, and al-Quduri. He further examines earlier scholars who transmitted from the Salaf, such as Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr and al-Khatib al-Baghdadi. This material is then carefully sifted, refined, and organized into a rigorous scholarly presentation combining academic methodology with scholarly integrity.
The book reveals the hadith principles used by Hanafi jurists in accepting and rejecting narrations, dealing with solitary reports (khabar al-āḥād), and reconciling conflicting narrations. Though these principles were not previously compiled in a single dedicated work, the author has successfully gathered, systematized, and explained them. The book is a valuable reference for advanced students, researchers in Hanafi jurisprudence, and those interested in hadith methodology and the science of transmission.
