The author, Sheikh Salih Al-Munajjid,has dealt with such practices as calling for help from sheikhs, saints and things other than Allah; worshipping the dead and circumambulating their graves; invoking prophets, using magic and fortune-telling and believing in astrologists and planets, etc.

Imam Abdur Rahman ibn al-Jawzi creates an awakening in his readers by pointing out these ill effects. He says that the root of sins lies in arrognace, greed and jealousy.

Among the effects of sins is a diminished ability to do pious deeds and a reduced inclination to remember Allah.

Some of the major tribulations of human existence are the consequences of committing sins and spreading evil into the world. According to the moral scale of Islam, it is known that man is imperfect and fallible and prone to committing sins. This is part of his innate weak nature as a finite limited creature. However, it is a sin if he has the ways and means to attain relative moral perfection and deliberately chooses not to seek it.
