Usul al-Fiqh or Islamic jurisprudence is a subject which is replete with subtleties that challenge even the most intelligent minds. The author has simplified the subject to serve the needs of the non-specialists. However the discussion is thorough and characterized with academic rigour. This work will be a significant addition to the text books available on Islamic jurisprudence in English.

The recent decades have witnessed a strong assertion of Islamic identity. One of its manifestations is the insistence on the part of Muslims that all institutions of life should be brought in conformity with Islamic principles. In this work, the author attempts to spell out the Islamic principles on which business enterprise should be based specially in the area of partnership.
