This is the only complete translation of Al Muwatta by Imam Malik, the great jurist of Madinah and founder of the Maliki school of thought. It is a complete record of the legal and social parametres of the first Muslim community of Madinah, and commonly considered the first book of Islamic law and recorded collection of Hadith (Prophet's sayings).
Two greart works in one volume. Deliverance from Error is the spiritual autobiography of Imam Ghazali. The Beginning of Guidance, his other work included in this volume, complements his spiritual autobiography and sets out his ideal of how the religious man should order his life from hour to hour and day to day. Translated by W. Montgomery Watt.
Numerous studies have been done on Imam al-Ghzali (1058-1111) in almost all major languages. So much is the academic attention given to him, and deservedly so, that it is difficult to find any element of originality in a new study on him. Various aspects of his life and thought have yet to be adequately studied, one of them being his role in islah (Islamic reform). It is also true that the study of islah as a separate topic is somewhat new, and available literature on the subject is limited within the views and the achievements of a number of distinguished scholars in the modern times. This work attempts to discover part of the rich legacy of the reformers by introducing a pre-modern scholar as Imam al-Ghazali.
Al-Fawz al-Kabīr fī Uṣūl at-Tafsīr – “The Great Victory, on Qur’ānic Hermeneutics” is a manual of the principles and subtleties of Qur’ānic tafsīr. In it the author outlines the five fundamental sciences that the Qur’ān contains: the science of judgements (aḥkām), reminding others of the Favours of Allah, the Days of Allah and the Life after Death, and giving particular attention to the science of polemics.
"The term 'heart' has a primal position in the vocabulary of Muslim religious teachers and in that of the philosophers. The term is used in Islam for the seat of intellectual and emotional life. In this treatise, al-Ghazali unravels its wonders and secrets, achieving his desired end - to lead man to the good life. This is the twenty-first book of the third quarter of al-Ghazali's Ihya Ulum al-Din."Translated by Walter James Skellie.
A detailed history of the Qur'an from revelation to compilation as well as a comparative study with the Old and New Testaments. This monumental effort, a scholarly work composed in an impassioned tone, provides a welcome foundation for sincere study at a time when assailing the Qur'an has become all too common.
The philosophical, cultural, political, economic and social impact of the domination of the modern West continues in one way or another through the width and breadth of the Muslim world, threatening not only the traditional institutions of Islamic society, but Islamic religion itself. Many are alienated from Islam as a result of the crushing influence of alien ideologies, whilst others react mostly with emotional outbursts and occasional violence. This book, written by one of contemporary Islamic scholarship's best minds, addresses primarily the Muslim youths in a language which is fairly simple rather than being excessively scholarly, to be able to respond to the challenges posed by the modern world and its current ideologies.
Of all the writings of Mawlana Azad, his exegesis of Surah al-Fatihah (The Opening Chapter) in his Tarjuman al-Qur'an is a masterly introduction to the study of the Qur'an. Students of the Qur'an will find therein a store of Quranic knowledge such as is not found in current commentaries. This work is an analytical summary of it, reproduced in the very manner of Azad's exposition.
A fresh and very comprehensive discussion on all aspects of zakah.
Who has to give zakah? What items must a person give zakah on? Who can zakah be given to? How is zakah distributed? Why do we give zakah? Are there any other financial dues besides zakah?
"This work comprises the historical chapters of the most important compilations of the Prophet's traditions (Hadith) by Imam al-Bukhari and depicts the beginning of the Prophet's revelation, the merits of the Companions and the early years of Islam up to and including the turning point of Islamic history, the Battle of Badr."
Bennabi's reformulation of the Qur'an's miracle within the wider philosophical and historical context of the religious phenomenon and prophetic movement is quite unique. It invites the mind to a different reading of human religious history and a different understanding of the human condition that goes far beyond the mere concerns of Muslims
The first work of its kind in English. An indepth study of the classification of knowledge in Islam according to Al-Farabi, Al-Ghazzali, and Al-Shirazi.
"Hajj is one of the pillars and foundations of Islam, the act of worship of a lifetime, the seal of all that is commanded, the perfection of Islam and the completion of religion. Such a worship deserves that much attention to be devoted to explaining itand to detailing its essential elements, its properties, its merits, and its mysteries. This little book is translated from Kitab Asrar al-Hajj, the seventh chapter of the celebrated 12th-century work, Ihya Ulum al-Din. Al-Ghazali invites readers to dwell on the subject of the hajj beyond its mechanics and rituals, and to pay attention to its true substance, purpose and philosophy." Translated by Ibrahim Umar.
Completely revised edition of Fazlul Karim's translation.
Shaikh ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani is arguably the greatest figure in the history of Sufism. His teachings have attracted millions to Islam and helped countless Muslims understand the spiritual journey that this great religion represents.
The current work consists of fifteen short letters in which the Shaikh describes spiritual experiences and knowledge that are attained through striving against one’s base desires and committed devotion to Allah. They are written in a highly mystical language, using a peculiar style whereby each sentence or group of sentences is followed by a related Qur’anic text. In effect, the letters represent a Sufi experiential interpretation of the quoted Qur’anic verses. While small in size, this exceptionally charming and poetically beautiful work is immensely profound.
